Fiona began her training at Bodenwieser Dance Centre and continued at the Australian Choreocentre in Sydney. She spent a year at the Centre for the Performing Arts in Adelaide before she returned to Sydney to perform with One Extra Dance Company. Fiona joined Tasmania Dance Co before being awarded 2 scholarships to study at the London School of Contemporary Dance.
From 1978-1991 Fiona was a professional dancer in Australia, the UK and Europe undertaking a range of work, both commercial and contemporary, from opera to independent dance companies. In 1984 she was a founding member of La Bouche in London, a mixed-media music/dance/video group (signing to Safari and Sony Records).
Whilst working in London Fiona was busy teaching at Pineapple Dance Studios, Laban School of Dance, Second Stride Dance Company, Adventures in Motion Pictures and DV8. Since 1991 Fiona has been a Contemporary lecturer at QUT Creative Industries (winning a Dean’s Award 2009) and taught at the Queensland Ballet Professional Year, the Aboriginal Centre for Performing Arts, Queensland Dance School of Excellence, Queensland National Ballet and 2ballerinas. She has also been a guest teacher for various companies, including Bangarra Dance Theatre, Chunky Move Dance Company, DV8, Dance North and is a regular teacher for Expressions Dance Company.
More recently she has developed her photographic skills and has been able to further explore the rich language of dance and performance through photography, combining the two areas to specialise in performance photography. Fiona has exhibited her work at the Brisbane Powerhouse, the Judith Wright Arts Centre, Glass Bar and the Australian Choreographic Centre in Canberra. Her images have been viewed in numerous publications including The Guardian (UK), Dance Australia, the Courier Mail, The Australian, Real Time and Dance Forum.
